pen & ink - black and white

Silvia Cocolo is a Toronto-based artist whose background in printmaking informs her approach to her pen and ink work.   Her drawings and paintings are complex layered abstractions inspired by organic forms. Her materials are direct: ink on paper or canvas. On large canvases, she layers multiple colour washes which in turn, influence the direction of the line work. The drawings on watercolour paper are in black and white. Her work is inspired by nature but filtered through the subconscious. Her line patterns are minutely detailed inviting the observer to connect to the organic elements of the work while leaving the interpretation of the subject matter wide open.
